ARTS EDUCATION
At Center for the Arts, we believe the arts have the power to inspire creativity, build confidence, and foster lifelong learning. Through our Center Stage Academy (CSA), students of all ages can explore their passions in theatre, visual arts, music, movement, and creative expression in a welcoming, encouraging environment led by experienced teaching artists and arts professionals.
CSA offers year-round educational opportunities, including after-school classes, homeschool programs, workshops, camps, and fully staged theatrical productions. Students can participate in acting, musical theatre, visual arts, photography, dance and movement, vocal instruction, and production-based performance experiences that develop creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. Each semester features unique themes and culminates in performances, showcases, or exhibitions where students proudly share what they have learned with family and friends.
Learning doesn’t stop with our youth programs. Throughout the year, Center for the Arts also offers workshops and enrichment opportunities for adults, including acting, visual arts, creative experiences, and specialty classes taught by local artists and industry professionals. Whether you’re discovering a new hobby or continuing your artistic journey, there’s a place for learners of every age to create, grow, and connect through the arts.

Summer 2025
Center Stage Academy Summer Camps are an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to jump into the joy of the arts! Whether it’s performing arts, technical theatre, vocal performance, or visual arts, there is something for everyone! Come perform a Broadway classic, work with your peers to create a show of your own or dabble in a new painting technique! Camps run throughout the summer for grades K-12 and all experience levels are welcome. It is our goal to instill the importance of the arts, while fostering the life skills of self-confidence, responsibility, teamwork, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, problem solving, empathy, and more. Join us at the Center for the Arts in downtown Murfreesboro for a summer full of fun!
Summer classes are based on student’s Rising Grade, which is the grade the student will enter in the Fall of 2025 for the 2025-26 school year.

Our Elementary One Performers program is a creative drama experience using play to teach the basics of being onstage. Our K-2 students can expect games, songs, creative movement, dance, and performance basics culminating in an end of camp showcase.

Creative Drama: Rising Grades 3-6

In our Creative Drama focused camps, students will learn the basics of theatre through the creation of their own show. Students will be hands-on in creating the story and devising the characters. As the week continues students will use problem solving STEAM skills to design and build their own set, costumes, and props out of found objects. Finally, after a week of work, students will perform their piece for an audience of family and friends. It is our goal to instill the importance of the arts, while also fostering life skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, and more.

Show Stoppers is an opportunity for older students to enhance their vocal performance skills in a weeklong intensive where we learn, analyze, and perform some of Broadway’s best musical numbers.

Show Stoppers is an opportunity for older students to enhance their vocal performance skills in a weeklong intensive where we learn, analyze, and perform some of Broadway’s best musical numbers. In this week, students will use their musical literacy skills to create expressive ensemble performances while digging into the time-period, cultural significance, and overall theme of each piece. It is our goal for students to not only learn to perform music but understand its importance within society. Students will participate in physical and vocal warmups to instill good singing habits, time dedicated to music theory, instruction on the tools necessary to read music, and finally, perform a showcase at the end of the week.

Level Up Classes
Level Up is an intensive program designed for students in rising grades 6-12 to attain specific performance skills in a small group environment. Students will work on one technique for a short period of time to gain further depth of knowledge in a focus area of theatre performance. It is our goal that participants will feed directly into our CFTA Teen Company.

Corinne Fann
Corinne Fann is an award-winning lighting designer and graduate of the University of Memphis with a BFA in Technical Theatre and a Minor in Nonprofit Management. She is currently pursuing her Master of Business Administration at MTSU. Her education and experience range from all different areas of theatre including both performance and technical theatre. Corinne has worked in theatres around the country including Utah Shakespeare Festival and Cumberland County Playhouse. More locally, she has been involved in community theatres including the Center for the Arts in Murfreesboro and the Arts Center of Cannon County in Woodbury. Corinne grew up with a strong theatrical and arts education and is passionate about providing the same for future generations.
Josh Smith
Josh Smith is an East Tennessee native and a recent MTSU graduate with a degree in Vocal Music Performance. While he has a passion for performing on stage, and has been in several shows at the Center for the Arts and in surrounding areas, he has also worked as a Children’s Choir director and Worship Leader at FUMC Lebanon. In addition to his music, Josh has also studied a variety of dance styles for 5 years, including Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and Pas de Deux.
Center Stage Academy Closure Policy
The Center for the Arts is closed on all National Holidays. Weather related closures are based on Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City Schools. If either school system is closed due to inclement weather, all educational programming is cancelled. For individual lessons please contact your teacher directly.
CFTA WORKSHOPS
Playwrights Welcome supports and inspires playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists by providing free theatre access nationwide. Developed for Dramatists Guild of America members, this national ticketing initiative was created by Samuel French, a Concord Theatricals company, with input from other publishing and licensing houses.
Committed to the success and artistic health of industry writers and the vibrancy of American theatre, we recognize that attending theatre is essential for writers to learn and grow. We proudly participate in Playwrights Welcome, offering available tickets to professional playwrights on the day of a performance, free of charge. To receive a ticket, visit the box office 30 minutes before showtime with your Dramatists Guild membership card. Check ticket availability in advance, as not every show is eligible.
