CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
LEADING PLAYER
( FEMALE PRESENTING: 20s - 30s | VOCAL RANGE: Db3 - Ab4 )
The ultimate “ringleader,” the Leading Player is masterfully charming and manipulative. The seasoned act of the troupe, obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience. They guide Pippin through a journey of self-discovery… no matter what it takes
PIPPIN
( MALE PRESENTING: 20s - 30s | VOCAL RANGE: G2 - Ab4 )
Our story's young and confused protagonist, Pippin longs to find his purpose in life. He arrives at the troupe’s camp and is taken in as the “new aspiring act.” A clown. He’s naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually he finds love and meaning in life with Catherine and her son, Theo
CHARLES
( MALE PRESENTING: 50s - 60s | VOCAL RANGE: G2 - E4 )
Pippin's demanding father. As “the King of the Holy Roman Empire,” Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride as the “classic act.”
FESTRADA
( FEMALE PRESENTING: 30s – 40s | VOCAL RANGE: A3 – F5 )
Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductive “diamond in the rough,” who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal. She is both sexy and smart, with skills of using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son
BERTHE
( FEMALE PRESENTING: 50s - 60s | VOCAL RANGE: E3 – C5 )
Pippin's saucy “bombshell” grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest, just as she has always tried to do
CATHERINE
( FEMALE PRESENTING: 20s - 30s | VOCAL RANGE: E3 – C5 )
A widowed mother, Catherine is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic who contains a hidden, graceful elegance. The “dream-like dancer.” Once she encounters Pippin at his lowest point, they inevitably fall in love
LEWIS
( FEMALE PRESENTING: 20s - 30s | VOCAL RANGE: E3 – C5 )
Pippin’s half-brother, and the “manly master swordsman” of the troupe. He must always prove how strong and handsome he is, especially if he gets to be King one day.
( NOTE: This part is a male character portrayed by a non-male actor )
THEO
( AGE: 8-12 )
Catherine's son, and a rambunctious one at that. Once Pippin joins their family, he can't help but see some of himself in Theo - always curious about life's unanswered questions.
