One of America’s most adored and beloved musicals, Annie, is coming to The Center for the Arts! Come follow sweet little orphan Annie as she embarks on a heart-warming, life-changing journey towards her hopes for tomorrow. Bring the entire family out to experience a musical that has put smiles on faces for decades.

It’s December 1933, and America is experiencing the depressing and hopeless effects of the Great Depression. Annie, a vibrant young orphan living in a gloomy orphanage, is a loyal friend to every girl that lives there and a challenge to the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Luckily for Annie, she is selected among the girls to spend a short amount of time with a wealthy industrialist by the name of Oliver Warbucks. Warbucks cannot help but love her, and Annie’s entire world begins to become brighter as she encounters the many possibilities that hope can offer her.

Annie is based upon Harold Gray’s comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Annie features songs by Charles Strouse such as “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “Tomorrow,” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” Lyrics are by Martin Charnin, the book is by Thomas Meehan. The original production opened on Broadway in 1977 and won numerous awards including Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Original Score. A popular 1982 film version of the musical featured the hilarious Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan.

Annie will play at The Center for the Arts November 3-20, 2011: Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm.
